The consortium of IC Ictas Insaat and Astaldi, ICA which is the constructor and operator of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Northern Ring Motorway will support the “Earth Hour” event which was started out by WWF in 2007, by blacking out the bridge. At 24th of May, Saturday the bridge’s lights will be switched out except for the necessary ones for air and motorway traffic to raise awareness in the world’s environmental issues. Raising awareness to the need for taking action against the climate change will be aim of the even which has the theme of “biological variety and connection to the world” this year. 

World’s biggest global environment movement Earth Hour, is performed at the month of March every year. At these events that are carried out by WWF-Turkey since 2008 in our country, different institutions and establishments support the organization by turning the lights of their symbolic structures’ and surrounding lights. Millions of people, work place and monuments around the world take part in this movement by turning their lights off for an hour. 

Last year millions of people from 187 countries and regions around the world has participated in Earth Hour. In the event supported by 350 famous person and opinion leader, more than 3.000 monumental structure has turned their lights off. Structures such as Galata Tower, Hagia Sophia, Dolmabahçe Sarayı, Rumeli Fortress, Izmir Clock Tower and Trojan Horse are among the ones that have turned their lights out in Turkey until today.
