Yandex , analyzing Istanbul traffic, found out that the traffic density decreased more in 2017 than in 2015 and the average speed increased by 2 percent in heavy evening hours and 5 percent during mid-day.

Yandex, analyzing the traffic data of Istanbul for 3 years from January 2015 to December 2017, determined that Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Eurasia Tunnel had a positive impact on Istanbul’s traffic. Istanbul experienced less traffic density on weekdays in 2017 than in 2015. The average speed increased by 2 percent in heavy evening hours and 5 percent during mid-day.

In the hours of evening traffic, the speed in the direction of Haliç Bridge – 15 July Martyrs Bridge was 23 km per hour in 2015 and 34 km in 2016 per hour and it increased to 41 km per hour in 2017. The speed at the transition of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, in the direction of Asia-Europe was 32 km per hour in 2015 and 49 km per hour in 2015 and it increased to 54 km per hour in 2017. Vehicles could speed up to 59 km per hour in 2015 in the direction of Asia-Europe and this number increased to 61 km per hour in 2017.

The fastest transition is at FSM

Drivers heading towards Haliç Bridge – 15 July Martyrs Bridge in the morning hours could speed up to 55 km per hour in 2015, 48 km per hour in 2016 and they sped up to 59 km per hour in 2017. In the morning hours in 2015, it was possible to drive at 47 km per hour on average in the direction of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge Asia-Europe, the next year it was 53 km per hour and it was 73 km per hour in 2017. The speed in the direction of Europe-Asia was 74 km per hour in 2015, it increased to 81 km per hour in 2017.

The density of traffic on weekdays in Istanbul lasts about 2 hours from 07:00 to 09:00. Morning traffics on Mondays and Tuesdays and evening traffics on Fridays are the heaviest traffic hours.

Saturday is very dense

The traffic density on weekends gradually increased from morning to evening, then dropped rapidly after 19.00-20.00. The average traffic on Saturdays was higher than on Mondays. Roads were busier on Saturdays than any other day of the week and the least traffic was on Sundays.
